There is accommodation in Keswick itself for those who prefer to be close to the hustle & bustle and all the amenities that the town has to offer with its attractions, shops, pubs, nightclubs, cafes and restaurants. Outside of Keswick town are the quieter lakeland villages and hamlets, with delightful names, such as Swinside, Applethwaite, Thornthwaite or Millbeck, each with their individual charm and attraction, country pubs serving real ales, country hotels, inns and accommodation of all varieties, some, such as Thornthwaite, have good local bus services.

Most accommodation providers in the Northern Lake District are members of the Keswick on Derwentwater Tourism Association. In order for accommodation to be advertised in the annually published Keswick Guide book or on the Keswick Tourism Association web site it must be inspected and approved each year by a recognised authority. This is to ensure high standards of accommodation and facilities are provided for visitors to Keswick and the North Lakes. Where the accommodation has been visited and approved by an inspector from the AA or VisitBritain (formerly the English Tourism Council), a quality grading will have been awarded. Self catering properties, hotels, B&Bs, guest houses and inns are graded using a star system (from 1 to 5 stars). There are additional awards given to those who excel in certain areas, such as Rosettes for cuisine, Silver and Gold Awards for excellence in hospitality.
