Visiting in April....questions
Hello,

My family and I will be visiting the Lake District at the end of April. We have an 8 1/2 year old daughter and a baby. Can anyone give me an idea as to what the typical weather is at that time of year? I'm also looking for suggestions of things to do with kids in the general vicinity (we're staying near Kendal). We will have a car so anything within a day's drive is doable.

Can anyone recommend any indoor or outdoor markets or street fairs?

Also looking for recommendations for castles or stately homes to tour in the area.

Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

Kendal is on the outer edge of the Lake District, but a good place to stay. A visit from there to Keswick is a must. Weather at the end of April can be brilliant! The last couple of years it has been very dry & sunny early in the year, but that does not mean that this year will be dry, too! A lot of people get sunburned here as they don't realise that although it may not be especially hot, the air is very clear and the sun burns more readily.

There is plenty for you to do. In Keswick you should pay a visit to the Pencil Museum (great fun and interest for folk of all ages), take a trip around Derwentwater on one of our launches, and for stately homes we have the wonderful Mirehouse, which is only open 2 days a week, but is so very friendly and interesting. There is also an adventure playground in the gardens, which are magnificent in Spring.

There is a street market in Keswick on Saturday mornings.

There is also the Cars of the Stars museum here in Keswick, just right for those children and adults who enjoy television and films.
