training/job opportunities in Lake District question

I am doing some research into the Lake District, to find out what training/educational and job opportunities are available in the North Lakes area, around Penrith and Keswick.

I am interested in finding out if opportunities have changed over the years and am particularly interested in opportunities for young people (up to their 30's). Are opportunities any different for men/women? What was the effect of the Foot & Mouth outbreaks? How did this effect the tourist industry?
