My happiest memory is when I climbed my first 'peak' - which was Castle Crag, in the Jaws of Borrowdale. I looked around and saw all those other peaks around and looked in my newly bought Wainwright to see what they were called. I then had to walk on all of those other hills and soon came to call them fells - and to look on the Keswick area as home.

Was camping at the foot of Bull Crag, just outside of Grange, woke at five and watched the sun come up over the dewent water valley from halfway up the crag.

swimming...
Around the summer of 66/67 learning to swim in Derwentwater, I remember there was a special area for swimming but the changing rooms on stilts were demolished around this time. Some years later I swam to Lone tree island from this location with my half cousin.

Happy Days
One of my best memories was late one August about 20 years ago, when I was camping with my girlfried next to the rugby field. One evening we took the "moonlight" launch around Derwentwater. It was nearly dark when we set out, then launch stopped in the middle of the lake and we enjoyed the most amazing views under the light of a nearly full moon. Sheer magic!

That girlfriend is now my wife and we still visit Keswick whenever we can, although no longer camping!

That's nice, Arty. I used to take the late night circular trip about once a month. A good way to relax and chill after a hot summer day.
