Millican Dalton
A friend of mine has just made me aware that his Father was one of Daltons best friends since 1912 and as recently as yesterday he has shown me an incredible collection of letters, photographs (he even has 9.5mm cine film) etc. etc. Many myths exploded such as the cave carvings which were NOT carved my Dalton but by my friend's Father (in the presence of my friend) The Jump to Conclusions carving was indeed originally "Don't Jump to Conclusions" and was carved in exasperation by my friend's father and to the Horror of Dalton who did not approve of this action. Dalton used to stay frequently in Winter with my Friend's father in Scotland. The information I saw was quite something and quite a lot of Dalton's history may need re-writing. My friend currently being a bit cagey on who to give/show all this info but I have seen it and it is absolutely priceless. My friend also knew Dalton, staying with him in his cave as a boy in the 40's. He sketched him and wrote to him frequently (in Dalton's latter years). His Mother used to knit the blue socks that Dalton wore to keep out the scree from his boots.

millican dalton carvings
After further research new evidence has come to light to prove that Millican Dalton DID in fact carve the inscription at the entrance to the 'attic' and in reality the MYTHS surrounding the man are not all fairytales!

dalton lecture
I've seen the advert in the Keswick Reminder as well. Its basically a lecture/slideshow and small exhibition and is being held on the 1st & 2nd November 2003 8pm-10pm at the Moot Hall, Keswick. Tickets are 4 quid and include refreshments. For all those interested in camping, climbing and the Lakes it sounds well worth a visit!

telephone
Did you know that almost 50% of the worlds population have never made a phonecall? And cows can walk up stairs but not down?
