Off Road Mountain biking
Can anyone recommend any good routes from Keswick or close by. We are quite an experienced group - and not bad at cycling aswell!! Thaks Spike |

There's loads of off-roading around Keswick.
Round Skiddaw. Start Keswick, up Latrigg to the carpark, follow the path round towards Skiddaw House. You can either: 1)turn right about a mile before the house and cross the valley and along the side of Blencathra then along the railway to keswick - about 1:30 hrs 2)carry straight on past the house to dash falls then back along the A591 to Keswick - again about 1:30 hrs 3)turn right AT Skiddaw House and along the path of Coledale Beck to Mosedale/Mungrisedale. Then head to the A66, cross straight over and take the C2C route back to Keswick - about 2:30hrs Whatendlath and Castlecragg Start Keswick or Grange, go up past Ashness Bridge and along to Whatendlath. Cross the little bridge and take the bridleway that goes straight up and over the top to Rossthwaite. When you get to Rossthwaite head to Honister Pass, go halfway up, about 100m past the cattlegrid turn off and take the path that heads round the back of Castle Cragg to Grange. About 2 hrs I hope some of what I have just written makes sense. Hopefully you'll be able to get and OS map out and find the tracks I'm talking about. Just as a little plug, I'm currently developing a website which will have all my favourite routes on it http://www.bikeroutes.tk Mike |

The Watendlath - Castlecrag route is now on http://www.bikeroutes.tk just click on the 'Area Map' link. It's the only route on there at the moment.
p.s. sorry for spelling Watendlath so badly in my last post. Mike |

Bike routes
Spike, there are some good routes around Keswick and the North Lakes on the Lake District Outdoors web site - see http://www.lakedistrictoutdoors.
There are plenty of other routes in this area, too. Hopefully next year will see an extensive range of new routes within Whinlatter Forest. The forest already has some good routes, but a network of specially created routes on challenging mountain terrain is being planned. |
