Easter week
Hi all

Hoping to come to Keswick again for Easter week but this time I am looking for a B&B or small hotel that does nice peaceful/candlelit meals in the evenings. I got married a couple of weeks ago and this will be a sort of honeymoon as we could not get time off work until the school hols (Gina is a teacher).

Anyone got any tips?

Hi John

Congratulations on your marraige. Keswick is a great place for a honeymoon. Has Gina been to the North Lakes before?

For accommodation providing evening meals if you visit the Keswick Tourism Association's web site search facility at http://www.keswick.org/search.asp then you can search for serviced (guest house/hotel) accommodation, and can request provision of evening meals as one of the search parameters. All accommodation listed there has been inspected and approved by a qualified inspector.

However, you probably realise that Easter is a busy time, so I would get on quickly with finding somewhere to stay.

Admin, thanks for the info.

I found a few places, phoned the ones that sounded right and eventually found somewhere that sounds just right, just a short way out of Keswick. Couldn't get in over the easter weekend but have got a week from easter monday. Probably better as possibly there will be fewer people around then?

It will be Gina's first trip to the Lakes as she has usually gone abroad for her hols. I want to show her what a great place this is so she will want to come back. Can you suggest any places to convice her this is the place to be???

John, I'm glad you hae found somewhere to stay at Easter. Of course there are plenty of good places to see, many of which will be weather dependant. If Gina has not experienced high fells walking then that's one thing to consider. I especially like Blencathra for first timers, 'cheating' by driving up to the car park by the National Park education centre above Threlkeld. An easy walk up to the summit, and then along to watch the people having fun traversing Sharp Edge.

And how about walking around Derwentwater? That never fails to impress first time visitors. I suggest walking anti-clockwise as this gets the road section over with first. For a shorter stroll (only about 3 miles) then it is difficult to beat the walk around Buttermere.

You will have to take her up over Ashness Bridge, to surprise view and then on to Watendlath. Perhaps a trip down to Seatoller for a light snack at the Yew Tree.

I'd recommend the evening launch trip around Derwentwater, especially if a moonlit night is expected. Perhaps a trip to the theatre?

Too many things to do! I'm sure that she will want to come back.

We will be back!
Just to let you know that Gina loved Keswick. She had never been to the Lakes before and this was a real eye-opener for her. She bought some new lightweight boots from Rathbones to replace some secondhand ones she got at uni and there was no stopping her. The highest we went was a walk onto Walla Crag and then down to Ashness bridge. We both loved it.

Hope to be back in August. I suggested camping but the rain we had put her off that idea. I suppose it is the B&B life for me from now on.
