Alfred Wainwright
Got to admit that for years I thought that Keswick was
where Alfred Wainwright lived and wrote about the Lakes.... of course it was Kendal was nt it ! However cant help thinking that he would have prefered to live in Keswick for its supurb position in the very centre of the Lake District.... thinking about it, he must have visited the town a thousand times during his life and must have been a familiar figure at the cafes and bookshops.... puffing on his pipe ! |

RE: Alfred Wainwright
Keswick would have been very different in AW's walking days. There would have been a lot fewer cafes and other shops. He would have been well known on the buses; in those days, as now, Keswick provided a travel hub for the bus network.
