shopping in Keswick
we have after many years bought a holiday cottage in Keswick which we use for holiday lets when not being used by ourselves. Although there are many small shops in keswick centre I have not been able to find general stores to kit out the house such as new bedding crockery etc. I live in scotland so it would be easy enough to bring down these things but I would like to contribute to the local economy so does anyone know of nearby out of town large supermarkets or diy stores-not niche stuff as it needs to be relatively hard wearing. thanks

RE: shopping in Keswick
I would suggest the Penrith Co-op which now have a homestore in Keswick, just off Packhorse Court.
Their web page is http://www.penrithco-op.co.uk/Stores/KeswickHome.aspx
David Robinson is the manager, it may be worth giving him a call as they can get anything not in stock over from the Penrith store and are used to dealing with B&Bs etc.

Otherwise there is Lakes Homecentre at Cockermouth - http://www.lakeshomecentre.co.uk or Homebase and other outlets in Carlisle

RE: shopping in Keswick
Sheila, it is in tonight's reminder that the Co-op homestore is to close at the end of this month, a real shame. The main co-op in Keswick is to be enlarged to carry some of the Homestore stock but that won't be for a while.
Irenah, I'd still check out the co-op for what you need, even if you have to go to Penrith.

Sue

RE: shopping in Keswick
We have a holiday let in Keswick too and can recommend looking at http://www.outofeden.co.uk/. They sell things specifically for the hotel/B&B/self catering and are based in Kirby Stephen. We have ordered in the past and collected there... There is a very good independant DIY shop in Cockermouth - The Lakes Home Centre which has an excellent range. There are quite a few shops in Cockermouth worth looking at and nice to support them. If you have any other questions happy to help! Carolyn
