BASSENTHWAITE FESTIVAL 30-31 MAY 2008
Cumbria-based chamber group Ensemble Buxtehude are delighted to return for the fourth Bassenthwaite Festival, a weekend of concerts of beautiful Baroque music against the stunning setting of Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw.

Friday 30th May, St John's Church, Bassenthwaite (on the A591), 7.30pm: Das Jungste Gericht (The Last Judgement), an oratorio by Dietrich Buxtehude (c1637-1707) where various characters such as Lust, Avarice and Greed battle it out at the Last Judgement with The Voice of God. Bring a cushion and settle down to enjoy an evening of fantastic entertainment with the ten voices, strings and continuo of Ensemble Buxtehude.

Saturday 31st May, St Bega's Church, on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (accessible from the A591, turn off at sign for Scarness), 12.30pm: lunchtime recital of Bach organ chorale preludes with vocal quartet.

Saturday 31st May, St Bega's Church, on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (accessible from the A591, turn off at sign for Scarness), 7.30pm: an evening of concerto cantatas by Bach and Buxtehude in the intimate setting of this charming 10th century church.

Refreshments available at all concerts.

Festival Pass to all three concerts £15/£5 children
Saturday Pass to both Saturday concerts £10/£3 children.
Individual tickets: evenings £7/£3 children; lunchtime £4/free to children.
