Hi all

My wife and I am planning a June trip to the UK this year and will spend about a week in the Lake District. We had been told by a friend to stay in Kendal, but looking at the map and some websites he must have meant Keswick. We are booked to fly into Manchester and will use train/bus to get to Keswick. What is the best way to get there? We land about 11 in the morning.

Either get the train to Penrith, then use the X4/X5 coach to Keswick, or get the train to Windermere and get the 555 bus to Keswick. All those services are roughly hourly. Sometimes you will need to change train at Preston.

For example, 11:27 from Manchester airport, change at Preston, arrive Penrith at 13:43. Then 14:30 coach arrives Keswick at 15:08. Or 12:47 from Manchester aiport, arrive Penrith 15:12, then 15:30 coach arrives 16:08.

Thank you for that. The travel time looks short enough. I like the idea of going to Penrith as it is along route 66. Will there be taxis there if we cannot get a bus? We try to travel lite but Chloe always packs spare everything.

Yes, I'd expect there to be taxis there when a train comes in, though the station staff will be happy to advise if not. Penrith recently won an award for best medium or small (I forget which) station.
