Bad Road Works in Keswick
We were up in the Lakes last weekend and found that Keswick is cut in half by roadworks, so to get from one side of town to the other you have to drive out of town, up or down the dual carraigeway (bypass) and then back in! To add to the misery there were traffic lights at the Booths supermarket junction which was holding up traffic coming from Borrowdale. According to a shop assistant in Blacks this work going to be running until the beginning of May. Be woarned!

Luckily we don't stay in Keswick itself, as we much prefer to be out of town. The scenery was lovely.

Re: Bad Road Works in Keswick
The road works reall are bad news. Yesterday it took me more than half an hour to get from Great Wood car park in Borrowdale through the traffic lights by Booths, and then had to drive the long way around Keswick to get to the east side of town.

And now it has been suggested that the disruption will go on for longer than expected.

You are right to stay out of town!

Sue

Re: Bad Road Works in Keswick
I'm coming up to Keswick this Friday (19th March) and staying in Stanger St. Can anybody please tell me how the roadworks are progressing and which would be the best way to come into town for access to my B&B.

Re: Bad Road Works in Keswick
Stanger Street junction is right in the middle of the road works. So far access to there has only been from the east, along Penrith Road, although you will have to negotiate a barrier to stop big vans going there. At some stage access will be from the opposite east direction. There are signs on the A66 saying which way to get to Stanger St. so look out for them.

Hope this helps.

Sue

Re: Bad Road Works in Keswick
Thanks Sue, I'll come in from the BP garage end and see how it goes. I don't think I'll be using the car much over the week-end!
