Worse Restaurant in Keswick
Up untill last week i would have said the italian Casa Bella or is it the other way round, any way not bothered because i would'nt use it again. Anyone who likes microwave ready meals would perhaps enjoy it, but otherwise i'd avoid it. However this place has now in my opinion been superseeded by the Indian Red Fort. We quite honestly had the worst Indian meal i've ever experienced there last week. My partner ordered meat samosas to start and me tandoori king prawns. The prawns were ok but pretty tasteless (unusual for tandoori) but the samosas were unbelieveable, one was warm but dry as sand, the other was still frozen and would you believe it uncooked...yes uncooked i kid you not! It was sent back of course and reappeared cooked, but without an apology and with no reduction in the bill later. I had a chicken Madras for a main course which tasted like it was made with a bottled sause about 6 years out of date, absolutely no fresh taste in there at all. My partners tandoori chicken was tasteless i'm afraid. I've since spoken to a number of Keswick taxi drivers and none of them would ever reccomend this place...i wholeheartedly concur with them..simply awfull!!!!

Sad to hear about the Red Fort. It was good when it first opened and we went there quite a lot. Last time I was there was about 4 years ago. I did not think it was as good then as it used to be. We go to the Royal Bengal a lot now - very good food there, especially the "specials".

The worst meal I had in Keswick was some years ago in a pub on Lake Road where the main course chicken was still frozen in the middle and the vegetables were totally cold. "I'll put it back in the microwave" was the response from the "waitress".

Hi Kelvyn...have used the Royal Bengal a couple of times and also the Lakeland Spice and have enjoyed both of them. Thought we would try Red Fort for a change but in future will use one of the other two!

Best Regards - Taggy

Re: Worse Restaurant in Keswick
Hi,

We were up in Keswick a couple of weeks ago and decided to pay Sweeneys a visit. During our many visits, we very often walk past it but had never been inside.

On entering, the ambiance was very relaxing with lighted candles and an art deco design on the walls. A friendly waitress greeted us and took our order.

My wife being a vegetarian, decided to play safe and ordered a Caesar salad. On tucking in to it my wife was amazed to find, that it contained lots of anchovies. When we complained to the waitress, she explained that fish was a common ingredient of a Caesar salad. News to me.

No offer of an alternative meal or a part refund was offered and we were not impressed.

Hence to say, we will not be returning to Sweeneys again
