Keswick Bridge Appeal
Good evening,
Does anybody know how the Keswick bridge appeal is progressing? I donated to the fund about a year ago but I have not been able to find out where it is up to. Can anyone help? |

Well the money was raised and the bridge was built - it looks very good. Except that the environment agency or someone similar body insisted that it be raised about 3ft above the level of the previous bridge so it would be above any future flood. So the bridge was installed higher than originally planned.
Then it was realised that without ramps to get onto this higher bridge, pushchairs & wheelchairs would not be able to use it. There was no meoney for these, but thankfully these are now in place but unfortunately look totally out of place. There is a public debate about this going on right now! |

Hi Guesthouseowner,
What a shame. I wish they would have carried on collecting more money and built a bridge that fitted in with the natural surroundings, i.e. one that was similar to the existing Station Road bridge. So often these days, modern architecture looks so out of place. If you have the time, can you please post when you hear any more news? I am only an occasional visitor to Keswick but I think Keswick is a very beautiful and unique place. My wife and I were married there and we really enjoy our visits. Thanks for the feedback. |
