Elderly Visitors
I am visiting Keswick mid September with two elderly relatives, aged 70 & 99.
Mountain Biking & Hill Walking isn’t an option! (…which most web sites have links to in abundance)
Any suggestions for places to visit etc. gratefully received.
This is the first visit to the Lakes for both of them. It would be nice if they left wanting to return.

Alan, there really is a lot to see and do here that does not involve extreme exercise! The scenery is just something of which older people never tire. many a content hour can be spent by a lakeside, or in a spot with a view!

Other types of activity do depend on the degree of mobility, but boat trips are always popular. If they can´t manage to get onto the Derwentwater Launch in Keswick, then the much larger steamers on Windermere may provide a good half day out.

There are plenty of art galleries, museums craft shops etc to see and tea rooms in lovely spots to enjoy.

When my parents come to visit (one nearly 80, one 76) they like to sit by the boat landing stages beside Derwentwater. Sometimes they spend a couple of hours just watching the boats and ducks. They also like to visit the cafe in the Theatre bu the Lake for coffee & cake - this is only about 100 yards from the landing stages.

Another popular spot for them is the Kettlewell car park beside Derwentwater (not far from the Lodore Hotel). They sit in the car there, reading newspapers and looking out over the lake. They probably have a snooze, too. Smile
