B&B with evening meals?
We stayed in Keswick in December, self catering, which we enjoyed. We have decided to come back to Keswick but this time would prefer to stay in a bed and breakfast that can also provide meals in the evening. We found that while self catering gave us freedom to do what we wanted, when we wanted, it was a chore to have to sort out meals. We went out most evenings to eat but found it expensive, especially as we like good food. Also it was difficult to get tables in the better restaurants as they were already booked up.

We are looking for somewhere on the outskirts of the town or even a little further out, but it must be quiet and with good walks around so we don't have to use our car. Any recommendations?

Paulette

Paulette, I have sent you a private message as I don't know if posting b&B names is allowed here. :?:

We always stay in a village B&B outside of Keswick because it is quieter, has a car park and we can enjoy walks and cycle rides without moving the car. We also prefer small and informal! We usually eat in at night as we tend to be too tired to go hunting for a bite in town.

Thanks, Wanderer. The place you recommended was already full, but they put us on to another B&B which did not do evening meals but had a pub just 5 minutes walk away where they served meals. Unfortunately the no-smoking law has not been introduced yet so our nice food tasted of fag smoke. Yuck.

Will try your place in a month or so, just as soon as we can find a free few days.

Paulette

I'm afraid they do get booked up pretty well in advance. We have already made our bookings for this year as we can only take time off during school holidays - coming up 3 times this year. Can't wait. :!:

We have been back
We just had 3 great days in Thorrnthwaite, staying at the Jenkin Hill Cottage B&B. Just right for us, quiet and relaxing, and walked straight from the house up into Winlatter forest. The evening meals were very good, and Christine, the owner, was able to cope with my wheat allergy with no problems, and even made me wheat free puddings!

We have have already booked our next stay. Big Grin
