Winter in Keswick
and
the North Lakes
Winter time in Keswick and the North Lakes often produces wonderful,
stunningly clear, cool, still days, showing those snow capped
landscapes so often pictured on Lake District calendar pages.
Most people do not realise that the average winter time temperature
in Keswick is actually higher than in south east England. Snow
on the high fells creates the icing on the cake, but snow in
the low level valleys is a very rare occurence.
The most popular way to enjoy this spectacular countryside is on foot, and the
opportunities for walking cover everyone's needs and abilities, from gentle strolls
along a Lake shore to strenuous mountain walks over rugged high fells. We have
useful links to walking sites here.
Of course, walking is not compulsory! There are convenient places
to park a car at or close to all the most popular amenities,
many where it possible to simply sit and enjoy looking at the
scenery. |
