It seems that the breeding pair of Ospreys by Bassenthwaite have rejected their previous nest and moved to a different nesting location. Perhaps the thought of cleaning up the old nest prior to egg laying and incubation was just too much....
The new nesting platform is on the Western side of the lake and can be seen from the viewpoint, but the state of the art nestcam, which was going to provide excellent images and a live feed of the birds and chicks, is now looking at an empty nest. Until a new camera can be set up there can be no live feed to the Whinlatter Visitor Centre information point.
Photo of new nest is here.
